Is Feminized Marijuana A Good Choice?
You can easily get marijuana seeds from growing your own marijuana plants. Marijuana, as you probably know, is a member of the potpourri family, and like all other potpourri, is produced by soaking flowers in alcohol. When you smoke pot or marijuana, essentially you’re smoking flowers from a male plant. Once those flowers have flowers in them, it implies that there was a male plant present among the female plants during the early flowering phase. Male plants produce lower amounts of flowers, terpenes, and other chemicals when compared with female plants.
Many people wonder whether they can grow feminized marijuana seeds. The answer is yes – you can! Female plants can be feminized even though they don’t have any seeds in their pollen packets. In order to feminize a plant, the female plants have to be made into a regular marijuana flower, and then the feminization process has to take place. Some feminized plants, however, only produce small amounts of flowers – usually under one-hundred flowers per bloom.
How do you do this? Many people have successfully bred their cannabis plant to produce little amounts of un-sexed pollen, and a large amount of seeds – sometimes up to two hundred and fifty flowers per flowering season. By making their cannabis plant ‘sexed’ in this way, they can breed the plants so that only the female sex can enjoy their offspring. This ensures that the little un-sexed seeds are passed on only to females – ensuring an eventual death of the male plant. With regular marijuana seeds, however, it’s quite difficult to make sure that the pollen will stay alive and pass on to the correct next generation of cannabis plants.
There are two ways to make sure that your feminized seeds won’t survive past your first try. The first is to ensure that your chosen sexual species of cannabis plant is very rare. Since each species of cannabis plant has a genetic coding that determines its most favorable environment, altering that coding slightly can dramatically alter the outcome. For instance, some plants can be born with larger and bushy flowers – and therefore produce large amounts of pollen – while other species are born with smaller blooms and more delicate petals. This means that by selecting one species of cannabis plant over another, there’s a good chance that the female plants will survive.
Another way to ensure that your un-sexed marijuana seeds won’t survive is to choose plants that are naturally resistant to insects and disease. If your chosen plants are naturally resistant, then the chances are better that their offspring will be as well. While there are some exceptions, for example some female plants can produce a large amount of pollen in one season, that pollen is generally useless to any growing enthusiast. However, by taking the time and effort to select carefully, the possibility of an un-sexed plant surviving can be increased.
One of the easiest ways to guarantee that your un-sexed marijuana seeds won’t survive is to avoid purchasing any seeds from growers who deal in late season marijuana. Some sellers claim that their product is available all throughout the year, but this is rarely the case. Late season cannabis usually gets hit with several insects, which are then responsible for killing most of the late summer and fall foliage on the plants. This leaves un-sexed marijuana seeds exposed to the insects throughout the year. This means that they have a much shorter growing season than their seeded counterparts – and therefore, the likelihood of their survival is drastically reduced. As a result, avoiding late season cannabis completely is recommended if you want to grow your own cannabis plants.
If you’re interested in saving money and growing your favorite plants from late season cannabis, some experts recommend cultivating feminized seeds instead. Many feminized plants do well on indoor and outdoor gardens because they are able to tolerate temperatures much lower than their seed counterparts. Moreover, they typically do not have to fight the insects that threaten their seeds’ lives; thus, they are less likely to succumb to death at an earlier age. Unfortunately, some seed banks will sell you feminized seeds despite stating that the plants are not capable of surviving in the wild. So, it’s very important that you do your research in order to make sure that you buy authentic and non-factory feminized marijuana seeds.
Despite the risk involved in buying feminized seeds, feminized plants have many benefits. Since they are rarely affected by the insects that destroy seeds produced by regular seeds, they are a great way to ensure that you have high quality marijuana when you invest in late season plants. Moreover, they produce plants that have more fragrances and higher potency than normal seedlings. These qualities make them highly valuable additions to your garden and make them worth the investment despite the potential for feminization. Lastly, females of marijuana plants grow faster than seeds produced by males, creating a great advantage if you want to grow fast weed plants. In short, it is highly recommended that you invest in feminized cannabis plants, as the quality of the end product is often greater than that of regular marijuana seeds.
