What Are Limited Edition Herbs, Seeds, Compact Buds?

Limited Edition seeds are a great gift to give and receive. They’re a one-of-a-kind offering from a breeder who works with only the best quality and happiest growing conditions, ensuring that you’ll get an exceptional reward for your investment. These can be used for propagating feminized plants (hybrid offspring of the male and female parent) or for creating feminized plants that exhibit the true characteristics of each sex. If you’ve ever seen a hybrid with flowers that look like either male or female flowers, then you’ve seen feminized seeds (and maybe even a few of the hybrid flowers).

Most frequently, breeders will begin by taking a sterile female plant and then making a clone to grow in a greenhouse in order to start developing a new crop of seeds. Once the female plant is pregnant (the pollen has implanted) it will produce one or two pollen sacs. Those are the first limited edition seeds. Since those pollen sacs contain only one copy of every chromosome from both parent plants, they won’t have much of the characteristic traits of the other plants and therefore won’t reproduce very well.

Limited edition seeds can have any number of distinctive features. Many common, popular varieties such as African Violets, Daffodils, Moon Mites, Tulips and Lupine appear feminized when they are young. But because they are so popular, the flower buds that comprise those varieties usually only flower for a short time each year and are therefore of less interest to breed. While it is possible to find feminized Moon Mites, Daffodils and other common varieties, it is far more difficult to find feminized plants with full blown flowering buds, which would be the type most Breeders are seeking.

The key to finding feminized cannabis seeds is patience. Rarely do you get one of these flowering buds in late winter or early spring. In fact, it can take years to come across a plant with complete feminization potential.

For those that can locate such productive specimens, the challenge becomes getting them into the right places. Often feminized plants are transported in small pots and containers, which can prevent successful breeding. It can be difficult getting them to produce viable flowers even in small pots. This is especially true if you cannot locate one of the rare, productive seeds that could make your efforts worthwhile. Some gardeners are able to successfully mate male and female plants, but if that process is attempted without care for the environment the result is often in sterile, low quality plants.

Some gardeners who have successfully bred their feminized seeds (female plants) have reported a pleasant, mild, sweet and fruity aroma from the flowers. Some have reported the aroma is similar to that of raspberry. In fact, the majority of feminized buds report a raspberry like flavor, smell and flavor. Aroma is usually one of the first senses to be overwhelmed by feminized plants. However, with careful nurturing of the buds, the aroma can be maintained.

The majority of feminized flowers and plants have great appetites and can often overcome other summer grown aromatic favorites. Many times feminized plants go through a second bloom stage before flowering, allowing them to continue to offer floral services well into fall. One common trait among feminized seeds (in both male and female plants) is that they are more persistent. Many times when a female flower is fully blooming, there is not another bloom evident until fall.
